210 (who?)
you are smoke,
blackened feathers,
and I forget
how the mockingbird
used to sing.

I forget
how to miss someone.
you left warm spots in me,
familiar dents and puckers
now empty.

nothing holds my eyes in place.
they roll from one end of my skull
to the other,
I don't want to see
a world without you in it.

you let this place hollow out
and dry like infinite droughts.
let me

the years age me,
and I don't know who I am

I only remember you,

but I forget that you are gone.
"And I wish that I was as good as you,
caring and trusting.
And I wish that my condition was new,
but I'm old and rusting."

-Brand New, You Stole, Daisy

this is heavily inspired by that song. kind of like how you get so used to breathing you kind of forget that you do it 24/7. does that make sense? if you stop breathing there are obviously consequences. suddenly there's this weird absence that you never experienced before and you don't know how to keep moving.

in other words, mine!

It's crazy that I had the very lines you used in the description stuck in my head today, and here deviantART is recommending this poem to me while I hardly ever get on here anymore. I love the poem, too. The imagery your simple words evoke is truly disturbing and at the same time comforting in that it is so familiar. Keep on writing such beautiful things. The world sure could use it.

When I read this poem, I thought of how when a person I loved died, it hurt and I felt like a piece of my soul died. It is painful when you lose something important to you isn't it?

I saw this on the homepage. I read the first stanza and was hooked. Very well done!
